Light Solstice: Joy, Courage, Illumination
As the solstice arrives, light stretches its fingers across the horizon, reminding us that even the longest night gives way to dawn. This turning point invites joy—a quiet celebration of endurance and renewal.
Courage rises with the returning sun, urging us to step forward, to shed what no longer serves, and to embrace the unknown with open hearts.
And in that glow, illumination unfolds—not just in the sky, but within. It’s the moment we see clearly, the spark that guides us through shadow and into possibility.
The solstice is more than a season; it’s a promise: that light always returns, and with it, the strength to begin again.

This time of year leads has a lot of complex associations. For some it is a time of celebration. For some it is a time of grief or loneliness. For many, it is a time of excessive stress. Deadlines to finish up; gifts to gift; food to prepare; parties to go to; etc., etc. So how do you make it through this time?
One suggestion I have, is to create a space to welcome in this transition into Winter and the New Year. Today, on Solstice we have the end of the shortest days (for the Northern Hemisphere), and a welcoming return of the light.
How do you celebrate? Maybe you do something simple like get outside and take a walk. If so, spend a little extra time worrying less about your steps use the time to unplug and take in the scenery. What to you hear? What do you see? What do you smell? How do you feel?
Another simple celebration is to light your favorite candle. Personally, I love a natural beeswax candle and luckily my offspring likes to make them. We have beehive molds and each December they pull them out and slowly melt the wax to create beautiful candles that smell wonderful.
Reminder: If you are going to use a scented candle try to make sure it's scented with 100% natural essential oils and that your wick does NOT contain metal.
Scents of the season could be peppermint, cinnamon, or a mix of natural spices you toss into a pan of hot water to simmer slowly and fill your space with goodness.
Winter, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is associated with the Lung Meridian. The indoor air quality you have at work, school, and home - all matter. We tend to use forced air heating and that can lend to dry eyes, dry nasal passages and more upper respiratory issues. A small cool steam diffuser by the bedside and keeping the evening temperature to 65 degrees can help with better sleep. Adding a few drops of peppermint or eucalyptus oil to your shower pan in the morning can be a quick way to have a refreshing sinus support moment.
Tip: Essential oil made from the 'lungs' of the plant support our lungs. Which part of the plant? The Leaves = Lung support.
However you celebrate this season, I wish you all the warmth, comfort and health. If you need to check in with an appointment, simply click on the appointment page on the website, or sign into your Practice Better, and request one from there.
I am always happy to be a part of your healthy lifestyle support.
