Ah Choo! Sneezes &Sniffles Are Upon Us!

 Season For Sneezing

It is no April Fools joke to wake up with a sore throat, stuffy nose and thick head.  However, this is the season for sneezing.

Many times clients are surprised to see or hear me with a stuffy head.  Once they get to know me, they understand that I am not one to SUPPRESS symptoms but to EXPRESS them.  That's why I clear them faster.

Spring allergens/colds/flus should not last more than 7 days.  If so, you may be suppressing or have compromised health.

Many will want to gravitate to antihistamines and anti-inflammatories when suffering.  Instead, I hope you'll try the following tips to get things flowing again:

1) STEAM  - When?  Anytime even in your cubicle at work.  Steam helps to keep the mucus passageways moist.  So steaming as much as possible is great.  After all, we don't want to suppress the mucus we want it to do it's job (have allergens stick to it) and get them out!  So stock up on the tissues and wash hands after you blow your nose.

If you're not running a fever and have a gym membership with a steamer, go for it.  If you are, you can still steam over a cup of hot tea or homemade chicken bone broth (add lots of onion and garlic).

I like to add 2 drops each of organic lavender, eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils to hot water in my Japanese tea pot (which has the cast iron holder for a candle to keep the steam going) and let that moisten the air.

2) REST - This is when you need to help your body along by NOT stressing it out.  Give it a chance to fight and clear spring allergens.

This is not the time to run a marathon, do heavy workouts, etc.  Instead, try to take a power nap at lunch and get to bed early.

3) FLUIDS - Increase fluid intake with lots of clear broths, hot tea (I like Throat Coat by Traditional Medicinals) and even frozen treats like throwing a vitamin C heavy smoothie into popsicle molds and enjoying the soothing .

Try not to use caffeine as a pick me up and instead go for good hydration.  If you do dairy, you may want to reduce it during this time.

4) SUPPLEMENT SUPPORT - Supplements I like to take include proteolytic enzymes (which break up mucus and help reduce inflammation), turmeric 1000mg, Vitamin C 1000mg, Liposomal Vitamin B Complex and one of my favorites Malungay/Moringa herbal.

I hope you try some of these tips and hints out.  If you've always used suppressive over-the-counter chemicals during this season now is the time to break free!
